The ever present discussion of broadheads. I like them, I love them, I can’t get enough of them!!!

I have used this season a Magnus vented 2 blade, a Magnus Snuffer and now have a SteelForce 2 blade on my arrows. I’m looking at a couple more that is getting to me.

Oh yea I forgot the topic… I’d say I’ve shot 40+ deer with Bear Razorheads. A good dependable head.

What has been a good Broadhead in the past for you and what are you using this season?

Killed a bunch of deer over the years with a recurve bow and the old Bear Razorheads, with the flimsy "bleeder" insert. If memory serves, they were 145 grain. I quit bowhunting years ago after I lost my one and only deer. Trailed him for a long ways, over parts of two days. Never found him. I still get the "Willies" thinking about the suffering that he endured, due to my faulty shot. I get my one buck a year nowadays with a traditional muzzleloader, and I wait for a can't miss shot, usually inside of 20 yards. Not saying bow hunting is unethical, it's just not for me anymore.

although I don’t bow hunt any longer my go to broad head was always a two blade magnus. They never let me down. But I do have some steel force also that seem to be outstanding broad heads and fly really well just never had the chance to use them before I gave it up due to shoulder issues. Have a great day

My #1 choice for 3 blade are 160 grain Snuffers #2 is VPA.
Two blade single bevel Cutthroat 160gr glue ons.
Double bevel Magnus Classic 160 grain glue ons.

I’ve only hunted with a compound. Too many Surgeries on my hand to draw a recurve anymore. I started out with Razorback 5s until they were arbitrarily made illegal. Now I use Thunderheads. Thunderheads are one of the few put together broad heads that will penetrate both sides of an oil drum.

Archery shop I used to go to back in the 80's had an oil drum they shot broadheads at and touted the Thunderheads performance of that test. Never shot them at oil drums but they sure do well on deer and the occasional squirrel that won't shut up. A squirrel doesn't really slow down an arrow with a broadhead on it btw. Not sure when but in the 80's sometime I switched to the Thunderheads and liked them alot. The older ones didn't have a very sharp point but you could stone the tip until it would catch paper. Used them until switching to the G5's and let my kid use the thunderheads when he was old enough to go bow hunting. As of last year he was still using them. Still have a few of the older smooth flat ones from the 80's-early 90's.

During my 25 year traditional bow only period I used many heads already mentioned, the Simmons Interceptor was also a favorite. When TN allowed crossbow use I bought one,an Excalibur Ibex.At some point I started making my own brodheads and still shoot them.It was a fun project. My first were made from .050 thick bandsaw blade material stacked 25 high 100 were cut out on a wire EDM.Another batch was made from annealed blue clock spring steel. Still got all the tooling but retired from the trade about 6 years ago.Good pictures are not easy with a tablet, but you can get the just of the process. The ferrell was a modified blunt.A shallow grove was milled to fit the blade then soldered with low temperature silver. The edges were ground on a surface grinder before assembly in a fixture I made for the process.

I’ve killed several deer with Muzzy.

The only squirrel I’ve arrowed was with a recurve bow and I stuck him to the ground with a wood arrow and he went around and around that arrow and never came off.

I’ve not had any oil drums come under me but you never know 😂 one could roll by…

I used 100gr. Thunderheads for years. Switched over to 100gr. Slik Triks . Both are excellent broadheads that never left me down. I dont bow hunt anymore due to a couple of shoulder surgeries but I do occasionally go out with a Styker crossbow shooting Slik Triks. Both of those heads will shoot like a field point.

Nothing but muzzy’s for me…. Compound or crossbow.

Have always worked well for me, on deer, bear, an hogs. I never seen any sence in changing.
